Once hailed as a future star of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has openly discussed the challenges that have stalled his promising career.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old candidly admitted that poor decisions, distractions, and shifting priorities contributed to his decline both on and off the field.
"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot... I admit that there was a distraction," Shaw told News24.
He elaborated on how his focus drifted after achieving initial success. "I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top at that time... Then they took me here and there... Then I got away from the track."
Shaw's career began brightly with a century on his Test debut against the West Indies in 2018, leading to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, a lack of discipline and fitness issues soon led to his exclusion from the national team. His struggles culminated in being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness concerns and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, the right-handed batsman is determined to turn things around.
He has officially left the Mumbai Cricket Association to pursue a fresh opportunity with Maharashtra as a professional player. In his letter to the MCA, Shaw expressed gratitude for their support, stating that he believes this move is crucial for his development.
With a new team, a revised mindset, and a candid acknowledgement of his past mistakes, Prithvi Shaw is hoping to start a new chapter. Whether this signifies a genuine comeback or a continued decline remains uncertain. For now, he is committed to taking the challenging path back to the top.
