Tottenham Hotspur have secured the services of Japanese defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old has inked a five-year contract with the North London side. While the official transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest the deal is valued at £5 million ($6.8m).
Takai's arrival marks the first signing under the new leadership of manager Thomas Frank, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou earlier this summer.
Takai brings international experience to Tottenham, having earned four senior caps for Japan. He also represented his country at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly preparing a revised offer for West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to sources. Their initial bid of £50 million was turned down by the Hammers.
Kudus' contract includes an £85 million release clause, applicable only to Premier League clubs. However, West Ham may consider offers below this valuation.
