The new World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle has commenced with intense competition, as three Test series have already begun to define the standings. While Australia and England have taken early leads, India and West Indies are looking to gain momentum.

WTC Standings

Australia's captain Pat Cummins leads his team off the pitch after defeating West Indies.

Australia and England are currently at the top of the WTC table, each holding a perfect 100 points percentage after securing victories in their opening matches. Sri Lanka holds third position after their two-match series against Bangladesh concluded with one win and a draw. Bangladesh is in fourth place with one draw and one loss.

Team India preps for 2nd Test vs England

Currently, South Africa (reigning champions), New Zealand and Pakistan are yet to start their WTC campaigns this cycle.

India's first match didn't go as they planned even with a strong fight at Headingley. Despite the visitors recording five centurions, England completed a dramatic chase and took a 1-0 lead in the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England successfully chased a target of 371, thanks to an impressive opening partnership between Ben Duckett (149) and Zak Crawley, along with an unbeaten partnership by Joe Root and debutant Jamie Smith. Shubman Gill’s team was left to deal with a costly middle-order collapse and dropped catches.

After the match, Gill stated that India had opportunities, but failed to take them. He revealed that India was aiming for a larger lead, but they were hurt by the lower order's failure to score runs.

India will now concentrate on the second Test at Edgbaston, with the goal of a quick turnaround and maintaining their WTC campaign. At the moment, they are close to the bottom of the table, along with West Indies.

The WTC cycle started on June 17 with Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh and will continue until the final in 2027.
